Merle and I after the race 2009
I am a runner. My running resume consists of:1 marathon, 5 half marathons, 1 15K, 3 10Ks and 6 5Ks. I sound pretty dedicated, right? Well, I'm not.
My last big race was in November 2009, Nashville's "I Run for the Party Half Marathon," this race pretty much sums up my running. I don't exactly speed run or to PR (Personal Record) in races, I basically sign up for runs to force myself to get fit and have a little social activity while doing it. I have had good races and I've had some rough ones...When it comes down to it I truly love running. There are so many different types of runners-I read a Tweet from MarathonKoach yesterday that "Average marathon finishing time for men jumped from 3:30 in 1980 to 4:16 in 2009. More recreational runners." I think that's great, every runner's goal doesn't have to be qualifying for Boston!
This coming Sunday (yes, Valentine's Day) I will be running the Mercedes 1/2 Marathon in Birmingham, AL. I did this race last year and it was my favorite race ever, being sponsored by Mercedes all the little things runners look for were great:food, crowd support, finisher t-shirts, etc. I promised a dear long time running friend of mine, Sarah about 6 months ago that we would run this race together in 2010. Sarah and I slacked the past few months on running, I don't think either of us could be any less trained for this race. My college roommate, Cindy will be running in the half this weekend as well-this will be her first half and I am so proud of her! She will smoke us because she has trained properly. I am very aware that doing this race under trained is stupid, the most I have run is 8 miles in my training(most training plans you run up to 10 or 12 several times before the race.) Sunday may be a sad day for Sarah and I, probably setting a PW(Person Worst-I made that up:))and possibly passing out, vomiting, cramping, going into cardiac arrest etc...I have not run with Sarah in over 2 years so we will have a BLAST while doing it.
Like I said earlier, I love running, I really do. One day I would like to run a marathon in 4 hours but it sure as Hell will not be Sunday.
Thank you, come again

Well put Megan! I don't run to win the race either, but for the experience. I feel proud just to be able to cross the finish line! :) I think you will do just fine at the Mercedes 1/2 on Sunday! Good Luck to the both of you. I am in the same boat...I am running the Disney Princess 1/2 in 3 weeks but have been in a slump lately because of this cold weather! But no matter what, it will be fun and rewarding. So glad you started a blog too!
